The widow of Red Wings enforcer Robert Probert spread her late husband’s ashes during the team’s final game at Joe Louis Arena, in a place where the forward had spent a lot of time.
Dani Probert, whose husband made up one half of the "Bruise Brothers" with Joey Kocur in the late 1980s and early ’90s, was captured with Kocur on video spreading ashes by the penalty box bench.
Many former players, like Kocur, and coaches were on hand to say goodbye to the team’s home since 1979.
The Red Wings won their last game at the legendary arena, 4-1 over the Devils; they head to Little Caesars Arena next season. There were reportedly also 35 octopuses thrown onto the ice during the farewell, a long-time tradition.
Probert, who died of a heart attack in 2010 at 45 years old, is well known for ranking fifth on the NHL’s all-time penalty minutes with 3,300 in 935 games.
The forward also played for the Blackhawks during his 17-year-career.
