Kyle Schwarber usually mashes baseballs but perhaps he should start bunting more often.
The Cubs slugger was facing a shift against the Brewers on Monday night and decided to drop a bunt down the third base line and boy, was it a beauty.
Schwarber pushed the ball down the third base line and Brewers pitcher Chase Anderson and third baseman Travis Shaw decided to let the ball roll and go foul.
The ball hugged the line but did not go foul, hitting the outside corner of third base giving Schwarber a leadoff single to start the bottom of the first.
“Ninety feet of beauty right there,” the Cubs color commentator said.
Even Shaw couldn’t help but chuckle with Cubs third base coach Gary Jones after the bunt.
Schwarber came around to score later in the inning but the Cubs fell to the Brewers, 6-3.
Maybe teams will think twice before shifting on Schwarber now.
