Alexander Ovechkin is usually delivering the crushing hits on the ice.
However, in Game 5 of the Capitals’ first-round playoff series against the Maple Leafs, the star was on the receiving end of a devasting blow, courtesy of Nazem Kadri.
Ovechkin received the puck near the blue line early in the game and attempted to play it off the boards while entering the neutral zone.
That’s when Kadri lowered his head and took out Ovechkin’s left leg.
The Capital flew head over heels in the air before landing face down on the ice.
Kadri was given a penalty for tripping, but the bigger concern was that Ovechkin left the game.
Ovechkin returned for the second period to a roar from the crowd after the first intermission. He proceeded to hit the Leafs’ Jake Gardiner on his first shift back.
The series is tied at 2-2.
