Tennis announcer on calling match with loud sex in background: 'After the first three moans, it was clear that it was copulation'

Not your usual grand slam.

Love was being served up in different ways Tuesday night, when tennis announcer Mike Cation was calling a Sarasota Open match between Frances Tiafoe and Mitchell Krueger that was interrupted by a couple having loud sex nearby.

After the video of the event went viral, Cation spoke to Deadspin about what it was like having to work through the sounds of love making.

“After the first three moans, it was clear that it was copulation,” Cation said, “being enjoyed vigorously.”

At first, Cation thought the sounds were coming from someone’s cell phone, but as it got louder he knew otherwise.

Cation surprisingly stayed composed during the broadcast.

“I didn’t have to stop myself [FROM LAUGHING] actually,” Cation said. “Because, like so many others, it just took me a second to really understand what was happening, where it was happening, and then all of a sudden — well, I’ve got to figure out how to talk about this in a family-friendly way.”

Like Cation, Tiafoe and Krueger were also unfazed by the noises.

Krueger smacked a ball in the direction the sounds were coming from and later posted about the experience on Instagram.

Tiafoe smiled and chuckled when the moans got louder during the match, yelling “It can’t be that good!”

Cation was able to pinpoint the noises to an apartment across the lake that had the windows open.

The announcer said he tried to take his time when making the call and letting those at home know what was going on.

“I take a lot of pride in making sure we tell the stories of our USTA events and players in a way that respects their hard work,” Cation said to Deadspin. “So you don’t want to disrupt that at all. But then, when the players are paused, the crowd can’t contain themselves, you just have to explain what’s happening. It’s the basic part of a play-by-play job. Describe what’s happening. So, I tried.”

Eventually the sex sounds died down in the match and Tiafoe won the match, 6-3, 6-2.

Cation also shot out a tweet following the matching, saying “Much love to the couple with the windows open across the way! Sounds like you guys had a good time!”
