Michael Jordan’s not crying this time.
North Carolina, Jordan’s alma mater are once again National Champions after being the runner up in last year’s NCAA Tournament. The NBA legend wasn’t in attendance for the win, but he did send a text message to coach Roy Williams.
Williams decided to read the message out loud when the team returned home after the win.
“I’m so happy for you and the team. You raised the ceiling to the roof tonight. Congrats, didn’t want to bring you bad luck tonight, but I’m so happy for you. Love you, my man,” Jordan said in a text to Williams.
Jordan made fun of himself with the message, referencing a halftime speech he gave at a Tar Heels game in March. When talking about the football team was joining his brand, he said “the ceiling is the roof.”
While the picture of him crying quickly became an internet sensation last year, Jordan decided to cash in on jokes on himself this time.
His brand now makes shirts that that reference the quote. One shirt reads “Ceiling. Roof. GOAT.” The shirts have since been updated following the National Championship win and they now read “Ceiling. Roof. Champion,”
The Tar Heels captured their sixth National Championship victory in school history Monday night, the third under Williams. North Carolina has never been afraid to move past the ceiling and the roof in Williams’ 14 years with the program.
