Mighty Quinn: June 13

“Mighty, while reading your columns, I noticed the word sirignanos in your articles relating to betting. The internet or dictionary make no mention of the word. What is its meaning? A definition would be appreciated. Thanks, Edward Kroczynski from Lake Ronkonkoma.”

“Hi, Ed. The News didn’t want me to mention $$$$$, so I had to invent my own currency. One name. But what? I wrote a story in early 80s about a guy in my neighborhood (Rosedale, Queens) who overcame his handicap to play flag football, deck hockey and softball. One day walking on 243 St. in Rosedale, I saw this guy coming out of the deli. Then the light went off. ‘Hey, Matt, you want your name in the Daily News every day?’ ‘Sure,’ Matt answered. His name is Matt Sirignano and he’s appeared in the last line of the Mighty Quinn column over 9,000 times.”

Mighty was waiting on the Warriors (-9) on Monday and likes the A’s on Tuesday. The deficit is 1285 sirignanos.
