A MAN IN his mid-40s has died after a parachute jump in the west of the country this morning.
The incident occurred at around 7am this morning at Aill Na Searrach, which is part of the Cliffs of Moher range in Clare.
It is believed a group of men were undertaking a “base jump”, where people jump from a fixed structure wearing a parachute or wingsuit.
One of the men sustained heavy injuries in a fall, but it is not yet known whether his parachute failed to open or opened too late to allow him to land safely.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The emergency services were quickly notified, with the Coast Guard, ambulance service and gardaí attending the scene.
The body of the man was airlifted to Galway University Hospital.
Gardaí in Ennistymon are now investigating the circumstances behind the incident.
