Volkswagen is charging up its future – again.
The German brand is set to show off the next instalment in its electric car future, a new coupe-styled SUV concept at the upcoming 2017 Shanghai motor show.
Referred to as the I.D. crossover concept, it will follow in the footsteps of the earlier I.D. hatchback from the 2016 Paris motor show and the I.D. Buzz concept from the 2017 Detroit motor show in guiding a light on the car makers future vehicle direction.
With a coupe-styled roof and four-doors the new I.D crossover concept is expected to take on a similar form as the BMW X4.
The concept is a window into Volkswagen’s future as it moves away from the low-lying smoke of the dieselgate era and embarks on a flighty plan to launch a number of fully-electric vehicles from 2020 with steep global sales targets, too.
Designed with all-wheel drive, the I.D. crossover concept showcases a range of future technology, namely autonomous driving features which uses an array of laser, ultrasonic and radar sensors, along with cameras, to guide the vehicle.
As with most Volkswagen models, the I.D. vehicles are expected to share a modular platform and drivelines when they see production.
