Official photos of Hyundai’s upcoming baby SUV have emerged ahead of its public debut.
Set to challenge the likes of Mazda’s CX-3 and the Toyota C-HR in the battle for baby SUV buyers, the new Hyundai Kona features striking looks that represent an evolution of the brand’s recent design language.
Slim high-mount LED running lamps represent three tiers of lighting on the front of the Kona, which features a similar style to the larger Jeep Cherokee and Kia Sportage SUVs. The model follows Subaru’s XV by using black cladding to offer butch appeal, wrapping the edges of its body moulding around the car to envelop the front and rear fog lights.
The car looks set to be available in a variety of bold hues that can be replicated throughout a cabin that features flashes of colour on the seats, air vents and transmission selector. Borrowing design themes from the new i30 hatch, the Kona features a high-mounted infotainment screen, dual-zone climate control and digital driver’s display.
The Kona is set to play an important role in Hyundai’s range, drawing new customers to the brand (and away from key rivals). Hyundai has not issued technical details for the new model, which is expected to make its official debut in Korea this week.
